Project Stakeholder Advisor for SBA Communications
Harley Thorpe specialises in Communications and Engagement relating to emotive, high risk issues. Harley has spent the majority of his career in and around the public service, bringing with him a strong track record in both central and local government.
Prior joining SBA Communications in 2019 Harley has over 8 years’ experience within the public and private sectors. Harley started out in the Insurance industry before leading grass-roots engagement in Canterbury following the 2011 Earthquakes. Harley was involved in a number of high-profile projects, focused on government decisions and infrastructure. It was during this time that Harley first started working in local government, being seconded first to the Christchurch Mayors Office, and then the Christchurch City Council Chief Executives Office.
In 2014 Harley relocated back to his home town of Wellington where he took up a role with the Companies Office, leading the communication roll-out of legislative changes aimed at combating money laundering. This then led Harley to Parliament where he worked as a Press Secretary on issues such as Overseas Investment and dog control laws.
After over a year at Parliament Harley moved into to contracting where he had a range of clients such as the Wellington Regional Council, EQC and Phone2Park.
